Needles Excellency

The shop at 1630 Central St., in Evanston Illinois looks like a fine art gallery. Downstairs, behind a wide bright picture window, the walls are covered with subdued sandy textured fabric. A warm, brown carpet covers the floor.

Against this soothing background the eye is immediately drawn to the bright, vivid needlepoint designs mounted on the wall and illuminated like fine art objects by overhead spotlights.

The shop is The Needle’s Excellency and the designs in a wide range of styles and colors from bright vivid abstract forms to soft landscapes and still lifes, bear out the name.

About Us

Our shop, The Needle’s Excellency, was established in the early seventies. It was a time of growing popularity for needle arts and we decided to join the trade that promised personal satisfaction in working on a project of your own choice and, if you choose, participating in group workshops and classes.

In time, our classes became the most popular part of our business, with substantial numbers of participants enrolling in our workshops on a

continuous basis throughout the years. If you are interested in our schedule of workshops and classes please call.

Needless to say, we carry a wide range of designs, fibers, and accessories and provide expert needlepoint finishing and framing.

Learn the fine art of needlepoint while enjoying the comradery of fellow stitchers in a bright and spacious setting.

Expert finishing that will do justice to the love and time put into your completed work. We finish Pillows, Stockings, Tallis bags, Wall Hangings, Ornaments, Trays, and many more items.

We carry a wide range of moldings and mats. Attention is given to every detail: blocking, mounting, and choosing the right frame to enhance your finished piece.

Texture, color, and a variety of stitches
are what enhance your finished needlepoint.
We have a large number of fibers, beads, and textural accents to create a needlepoint that is unique and a work of art.

Classes

The Needle’s Excellency Offers A Range of Classes for Beginners Through Advanced

Most classes are organized into 4-class sessions, with meetings every other week for 2 hours.

Class times are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

Morning 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Friday

Morning 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Saturday

Afternoon 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Monday and Wednesday

Afternoon 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
